Reducing Carbon Emissions: Coffee Cup Solutions’ Commitment to Sustainability

The responsibility to reduce carbon emissions is more pressing than ever. At home, at work, and as business owners, everything we do contributes to the carbon emissions we release.

“The Earth is at a tipping point, and we face a stark choice: either we continue as we are and irreparably damage our planet, or we remember our unique power as human beings and our continual ability to lead, innovate and problem solve.” – Prince William

At Coffee Cup Solutions, we are taking a stand for sustainability by reducing our carbon emissions to tackle the climate emergency. We pledge to contribute meaningfully to our planet's future.

Our Sustainability Journey

We have partnered with Wokingham Borough Council and their Planet Pledge Campaign, pledging to reduce our carbon emissions and inspiring other local businesses and individuals to do the same.

While we are proud to be a carbon-neutral IT organisation, our most significant impact comes from deploying carbon-neutral IT solutions for other organisations. By doing so, we not only honour our pledge but also enable businesses to adopt sustainable IT practices, reducing their carbon footprint.

Our Assurance Package, for example, delivers a comprehensive, carbon-neutral IT solution. It includes:

  • Unlimited Helpdesk Support

  • Endpoint Web Security

  • O365 Backups

  • Offsite Logging

  • Email Security

  • Vulnerability Patching

  • Password Manager

  • Cyber Essentials

Meet Jack Hussey: Our Green Ambassador

Jack Hussey, our Green Ambassador and IT Helpdesk Technician, has been passionate about sustainability since childhood. A local resident of Finchampstead, Jack joined his first nature club at age four and has been dedicated to green initiatives ever since.

“What I hope to achieve through my role is to get everyone to understand how important it is. Just because it’s not your personally funded work environment (e.g., your company paying for electricity bills), doesn’t mean you shouldn’t respect how much energy you’re using or wasting. Do you really need to keep your computer turned on all night? 99% of the time, the answer is no.” – Jack Hussey

Jack encourages everyone to consider what small actions they can take to contribute to sustainability. "A little can go a long way," he adds, "and collective efforts make a huge difference in the long run."

Jack can be reached at ResponsibilITy@coffeecupsolutions.com.

Our Sustainability Actions

Here are just some of the steps we’ve taken to support our sustainability goals:

  • Carbon-neutral IT solutions

  • LED lighting in our offices

  • Electric car scheme for employees

  • Paperless operations

  • Recycling all recyclable waste (cutting waste by half since 2021)

  • Milk delivered in reusable glass bottles, saving 500 plastic containers annually

  • Secure recycling of hardware waste adhering to international standards

  • Supporting employees to work from home

  • Planting a small forest of trees for every new client, in partnership with Ecologi

Recently, we installed solar panels on our head office, enabling us to make an even greater impact on reducing our carbon footprint.

Carbon Neutral: The Facts

A carbon footprint measures the total carbon emissions caused by an activity or entity. For businesses, this includes emissions from employees, premises, and operations. Being carbon-neutral means offsetting emissions by taking actions to reduce carbon elsewhere.

At Coffee Cup Solutions:

  • Each employee emits 0.82 tons of CO2e per year (from heating, electricity, travel, and consumption).

  • Our total emissions are 19.68 tons of CO2e annually, making us a sustainable, carbon-neutral company.

To calculate emissions for the IT solutions we provide to clients, we consider:

  • Underlying infrastructure

  • Energy efficiency and sources

  • Usage patterns

  • End-user devices

For example, spending £100 on business software with Microsoft results in a footprint of 1.2kg CO2e, as the IT software industry averages 0.012kg CO2e per £ spent.

Join Us in Tackling the Climate Emergency

This year, we supported the prevention of 20 tCO2e through verified carbon avoidance projects with Ecologi and contributed to protecting the Brazilian rainforest. Together, we can make a meaningful impact to address one of the greatest challenges of our time.
